American Idol Wrapup

Friday, February 29th, 2008

For all my friends who I want to talk to about American Idol – because I know I’m the only one who watches it. The first video is David Archuleta singing Imagine. This kid has one heck of a voice. The second is Brooke White (who is from Mesa, AZ) singing You’re so Vain. I’m pretty sure that song is about me, by the way.

This is really cool, I wish I had thought of this!

UPDATE: The video seems to have been removed.

Redundant?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I’ve gotten one comment on my last two posts here on Inkwaste – that my days seem kinda redundant! Admittedly, I have had a somewhat unproductive pattern, but after thinking about it, doesn’t everyone? I mean, people usually get up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, watch tv and go to sleep…right? I’m just missing the going to work part. I get paid more per hour to do what I do for myself than for someone else…I just need to find more of that work, which has been coming here and there.

Anyway, my day yesterday consisted largely of doing the same things from the day before with one notable exception: I grocery shopped in the nicest, best, biggest grocery store I’ve ever been in. This place is absoultely amazing, and I’m going to absolutely base my next move on proximity to a Whole Foods – it’s that good. Don’t take my word for it…let me cook for you!

Way Less Productive a Day…

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

I wake up yesterday, feeling sick once again, so I opt to stay in for the morning and avoid another workout. I just got the Clerks II second disc from Netflix, so I pop it in and watch the bonus features, including an hour and a half documentary about the making of the movie. Man, if Kevin Smith can break into the movie business, anyone can, right? Maybe I should move to LA…or maybe the Valley…hehe.

After that, I get a phone call during which I am encouraged me to make the trek outside and get some sun. I head out across the street to Borders where I plan to pick up some of the books the Best Picture nominees were based on. I walk up to the counter holding No Country for Old men and Oil! (There Will be Blood), but end up only buying No Country simply because it’s shorter and I’ve read McCarthy back in college. This particular author has an interesting writing style that takes some getting used to, but I can already tell I’m going to like it.

I make my way over to Cafe Pino for another delicious pizza and sit outside enjoying the book and some pizza with organic (as I am informed by the owner) crust and wood fired goodness. I promise myself that soon as I’m better, I’m going to stop eating pizza and start working out again!

The book is good, but not good enough to keep me away from sacking down in front of the tv when I get home for some American Idol in the evening. I have to say, David Archuletta stands out from the crowd so far on the guys side – I’m curious to see how his performance of “Imagine” holds up against the girls. I also get a call from Gumdrops asking me to do some more graphic design work in the future, which I’m stoked about!

A few phone calls, emails (BCox, send me those Disneyland pics!) and Scrabulous turns later, I’m ready to go to sleep and prepare for the new Whole Foods grand opening in the morning! Finally, a grocery store that’s walking distance, which I haven’t had since the Limberlost house. Since I finished Mallrats the previous night, so I pop in more Star Trek: Enterprise to fall asleep to.

There Will Be Blood and Cafe Pino

Yesterday I woke up still feeling sick – another skipped workout day. I instead settled down in front of the ol’ computer to catch up on some work. The good guys and Z and A (Gumdrops) had a graphic design job for me, which I banged out pretty quickly to their satisfaction. Turns out there are some competitors for Isabella’s Water Board campaign who needed a flyer…

I’m also working on a Kilt Rental site for my favorite bagpiper. I’m slowly but surely skinning some OS Commerce goodness for the Scottsman. I’m also finishing up my cousin Eric’s site, which should be up in two days. I have to say, it’s some pretty nice php code if I do say so myself!

There Will Be Blood

When I couldn’t take any more computer coding, I picked something else I could sit on my butt for – but at least I got out of the house for a bit. After the Academy Awards this past Sunday I really had a hankering to see the rest of the Best Picture noms (I’ve already checked out Juno and No Country for Old Men) so I headed across the street to the Harkins and caught a late screening of There Will Be Blood, which was really, really good. Daniel Day Lewis totally deserved that best actor Oscar…brilliant. It also makes me want to read the book that it’s based on, called Oil!.

Speaking of the awards, congrats to Ratatouille and Diablo Cody and everyone else who won (including the unstoppable Coen Bros.)! Best moment of the night: Marketa Irglova’s acceptance speech after Jon Stewart brought her back onstage.

Anyway, after the movie I bought a margherita pizza from Cafe Pino right next door, and I have to say that they make one fantastic pie. Shortly after it was cooked up in their brick oven, one of the owners brought it over to me in my to-go box. He insisted that I eat it hot, asap, in the car if I have to. Which I did and he was right. Totally tastily awesome.
